Blooming Baby Shower

We basked in the joy of an extraordinary Sunday, honouring three of our gorgeous ladies, each blossoming with a radiant baby bump. Set against the breath-taking backdrop of Amelia’s flower farm, we crafted floral pumpkins, designed charming baby blocks, and shared hearty laughter over delightful baby games

Amelia’s Flower Farm, is a small scale cut flower farm and floristry business nestling in the beautiful valley of Combeinteignhead only a stone’s throw from the River Teign in South Devon. Every year they grow thousands of heirloom, scented and unusual varieties of flowers for customers. Amelia & her husband run this local business together. They have a shared love of the outdoors – curating the land for their sons to inherit. They truly believe that they are building something for the future…. a sustainable farm – growing alongside nature.

We wish them all the best in this next chapter of their story.

Staff Day out 2024

Staff Day out 2024

We had an incredible staff day out as a thank you for all the team’s hard work this year. We tasted the most beautiful wines, toured the vineyard and ate lunch in the grounds of Kenton Park estate. On one of the hottest days this year we were truly grateful with this special treat. Kenton Park Estate is a family owned boutique Vineyard situated in a stunning location along the South West Coast of England close to Devon’s beautiful Exe Estuary, nestling in the gentle foothills of Haldon Forest, right next-door to Exeter Racecourse. Kenton Park Estate was once part of Powderham Castle Estate and is surrounded by sweeping countryside. A truly outstanding area of natural beauty. The south facing slopes and sandy soil, together with the mild and sunny climate are ideal for the production of World class Sparkling Wine. Kenton Park was first established as a Wine Estate in 2003 producing many Award winning Wines. The original Vineyard has now expanded significantly with the planting of 15,000 new Vines.

RAF 75th Anniversary of the British Society of Dental Hygienists

RAF 75th Anniversary of the British Society of Dental Hygienists

Our beautiful hygienist Clare attended the 75th anniversary of the British society of Dental Hygienists started in the RAF on the 6th on July 1949. Did you know? In the very early days during world war 2, it was recognised that a considerable amount of manpower was being lost to issues that involved oral health. Acute necrotising ulcerative gingivitis (known at the time as trench mouth) and dental sepsis were major issues. It was particularly notable in the RAF, where many operational flying hours were lost due to these painful and often debilitating conditions. In 1942, Sir William Kelsey-Fry, a consultant to the Royal Air Force, suggested dental hygienists be employed to help alleviate the problems as through education this type of gross dental disease was preventable. In response a dental hygiene school was started at Sidmouth in 1943. It’s incredible how far this career has progressed and how vital hygienists still are to dentistry today! Thank you to our incredible three hygienists who go above and beyond to give the best patient care.

Oral Health in the Community

Oral Health in the Community

Abbie and Jess went into our local school to deliver oral health education to the pre-school children. The children were really interactive, asking lots of questions about what we do at the dentist. They played a game of what foods strengthen your teeth and what foods damage your teeth. At the end of the session, they read the story ‘Mr Men at the dentist’ which they loved, and Dr Richardson had supplied goody bags for the children filled with children’s toothpaste, straws and wind-up chatty teeth which went down a storm. As you can see Abbie was a good sport dressing up at a toothpaste to make the kids giggle and really get excited about attending the dentist. Great work ladies!!!

Kate attends Advanced TMJ Course June 2024

Kate attends Advanced TMJ Course June 2024

Dr Kate Richardson attended Module 2: Botulinum Toxin Level 3. This advanced TMJ course, enabled Kate to learn the wide variety of alternative treatment options for treating TMJ related issues including Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD), Bruxism and chronic headaches and migraines. This unique course goes beyond the use of Botulinum Toxin techniques as Kate was also taught how to effectively incorporate the revolutionary use of low-level lasers for pain management, adjunctive splint therapy and ultrasound verification to treat even the most challenging cases.

Award winning dentistry success at Brixham Dental Practice.

Award winning dentistry success at Brixham Dental Practice.

How does it feel to have won a private dentistry award?

It’s such a privilege to be recognised by the profession for all our hard work.

How did it feel when your name was announced?

We honestly did not expect to win, of course you hope but to see our name on the screen was amazing and the teams support of cheers was such a buzz to hear.

What do you think have been the main benefits of entering the awards?

Running an independent private practice is such a massive team effort and the awards are such an amazing way to bring the team together and celebrate all our hard work. It is also a wonderful experience to be surrounded by professionals who are the best in the industry and inspires us every year to want to continue to such a high level.

Private Dentistry Manager Awards 2022

What categories were you successful in?

We were a finalist for best patient care, best practice, best hygienist Clare Edwards, best receptionist Avril, best dental nurse Harriet and Saffie and best practice managers Abbie & Steph!!

Have you entered before?

We have entered a few times and been a finalist but never won a highly commended award.

What do you think the Private Dentistry awards are doing for standards within the profession?

We can see the standard of entries was so much higher than before. We worked so hard on our entries and to be a finalist in 7 categories with over 1000 entries was incredible. With practices and their teams raising the bar each year it can only do good for our profession.

What will you take with you from these awards moving forward?

Moving forward we will continue to provide a high level of care to our patients, we will be working extra hard to ensure the smooth running of each individual patient journey and their treatment. We will celebrate what an amazing team we have around us here at Brixham Dental Practice and open our doors to any new patient who wishes to visit us.

A warm welcome to Dr Tobi Topliss from the Brixham Dental Practice

A warm welcome to Dr Tobi Topliss from the Brixham Dental Practice

For over 35 years The Brixham Dental Practice has been providing high quality dental care for our patients in the local community. This continuing success has enabled us to expand the practice and we would like to take this opportunity to welcome Dr. Tobi Topliss.

Following his qualification with honors from Cardiff University in 2020, Tobi completed his foundation training on the southeast coast. He has since worked as a senior house officer in the oral and maxillofacial department of Torbay Hospital. During this time, he passed his membership exams to the faculty of dental surgery at the royal college of surgeons of England.

Tobi has a keen interest in all aspects of dentistry, with a focus on delivering high quality care. He is a member of the British society of restorative dentistry, allowing him to keep up to date with the most recent treatments available.

Tobi has a naturally calm manner, allowing patients to feel relaxed in the surgery and enjoys discussing patient’s wishes to deliver tailored treatment for each patient. He joins Dr Paul Richardson, Dr Anne Green, and Dr Kate Richardson at the practice. “We are delighted that Tobi is joining our team and with him bringing enthusiasm and cutting-edge dentistry knowledge to Brixham Dental Practice” said Dr. Paul Richardson.

Tobi’s passion for dentistry started in his early teens when he was walking down the science block and noticed a career poster of a dentist and thought with his love of sciences and enjoyment of helping people he was determined to follow this path and was always known as Tobi who wants to be a dentist.

Dr Paul Richardson, principal practitioner said “he feels very lucky to find such a talented young dentist, Tobi has shown such commitment to the practice and inspiring potential. He has already grown in confidence and works very hard to offer a high standard of dental care to all his patients”.

Anne Green said “It’s lovely that Tobi has come from Torbay hospital as I did myself, this is a great opportunity here for him to grow in dentistry and it’s a pleasure working beside him at the practice. His eagerness to deliver such high-quality dentistry is so infectious and I hope to have the pleasure of working together for many years to come.”

Patients who are nervous and anxious about going to the dentist are exceptionally happy with Tobi: “We like to take things slow, explain everything in detail, and make sure our patients are truly comfortable in our practice.” Tobi said.

When not in the dental surgery, Tobi enjoys playing golf, sea-swimming, paddle-boarding, and discovering all the wonderful beaches Devon has to offer.

The Brixham Dental Practice in Devon offers General and Cosmetic dentistry with a special interest in dental implants, cosmetic smile makeovers and Invisalign treatment. To achieve that smile you’ve always dreamed of, for your convenience we provide a variety of finance options, breaking the costs down into smaller more manageable payments. Due to the expansion of the practice, Tobi will be here 4 days a week as a permanent position.
